Earthquake in Nghe An

3 am this morning in Yen Thanh district (Nghe An) occurred a magnitude 3.8 earthquake. Many people in the area heard a loud bang, then the furniture shook.

Located close to Yen Thanh district, people in many communes of Tan Ky district also felt vibration.

Mr. Cao Tien Thin, Party Secretary of Tan An commune (Tan Ky) said, sleeping he suddenly heard a loud explosion, then furniture shook. When waking up in the morning, the people in the commune discovered some walls and well walls with many cracks.

" People in my commune sometimes still feel the ground vibrate slightly, but this is the first time I've heard an explosion, " said Thin.

Talking to VnExpress, Mr. Le Huy Minh, Director of the Earthquake Alert Center and Tsunami Warning (Institute of Geophysics) said that at 3h20 this morning an earthquake occurred in Cong Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), epicenter at a depth of 17 km.

After the earthquake, this area may have aftershock, but the intensity is smaller.

Mr. Minh judged that this was a weak earthquake, unable to cause damage, only those in Yen Thanh and Do Luong areas could feel the vibration, the furniture in the house was swayed.

" Nghe An occasionally occurs earthquakes due to lying on the Ca River fault, but the intensity is not as strong as for the Northwest region ", Mr. Minh said.
