Earthquake pulls the seabed 2m high in New Zealand

New Zealand scientists claim to have never witnessed this anomalous phenomenon.

Pictures taken on Kaikoura's northern coastline, a few days after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake show a degree of natural devastation. The sea floor in the South Island was pulled up by 2m high by the earthquake and exposed each plate below.

Geological scientists admit never seen this phenomenon happen. On November 17, central New Zealand had heavy rain and strong winds only a few days after the earthquake swept. At least 2 people died after this natural disaster.

Satellite images of the Tonkin Consulting and Environment Unit show that the sea floor is lifted up and emerged from the water. The rock that is full of oysters, oysters and seaweed is now clearly visible. Lobster and abalone that live on the bottom layer are also knocked ashore. The whole area has incredible purple color.

Anna Redmond, an indigenous resident, shared these photos on Facebook and showed a terrible devastation of nature. All marine creatures pushed to shore cannot survive.

Marine geologist Joshu Mountjoy said: " I have never seen this phenomenon after the earthquake. It is a very complicated fault." Joshu said that the earthquake pushed the sea floor up vertically. Joshu said it took some time for the sea floor to rise and fall into the old position.
