Earthquakes continue in many parts of the world
On the night of 25 and 26 July, strong earthquakes continued to occur in many places, including the Philippines, Japan, Peru, Turkey and Italy.
The Northern Philippines is home to the strongest earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 Richter. According to the Philippine Institute of Seismic and Volcanic Research, the earthquake occurred around 1:15 am local time and affected Manila and Central Luzon Island. There is no information about damage or casualties.
In Japan, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred off the coast of the eastern island of Honsu. The time of the earthquake is about 5 hours 33 minutes, according to Vietnam time. The epicenter was located at a depth of 27.5 km at the position of 39,0229 North latitude and 142,7491 East longitude.
Earlier, in the sea of Marmara, northwestern Turkey, there was also a strong earthquake of 5.2 Richter scale with epicenter at a depth of 15.3km and the city of Istanbul 121km west.
The earthquake occurred about 20 hours 57 minutes local time (ie 0 hours 57 minutes Vietnam time), followed by 3 strong aftershocks of 2.6 Richter at a depth of more than 6km. There is no information about earthquake damage yet. Turkey is located at the intersection of two major continental parts of Asia-Europe and Africa-Arabia, so earthquakes often occur. In 1999, a large earthquake here killed more than 17,000 people.
The VNA correspondent in Italy said the earthquake happened in the northern city of Turin and the areas around the Piedmont region, bordering France. The magnitude 4.3 earthquake, which occurred at about 14:30 am local time (19:30 hours Vietnam time) caused many people to panic and interrupt railway service activities.
The National Geophysical Institute of Italy confirmed that this was the first major earthquake in the Piedmont region since the January 5.1 earthquake in January 1980.
Meanwhile, Peru in South America suffers from a magnitude 5.4 earthquake with a deep epicenter of 115.7km at 5.3475 South latitude and 76.5616 West longitude.
