Experiment with sludge separation of Sword Lake

On the afternoon of October 23, the director of Hanoi Department of Science and Technology Le Xuan Rao said that the Hanoi City People's Committee had agreed to allow functional agencies to test the sludge extraction technology at Sword Lake.

It is part of the framework of a project to restore and stabilize the Sword Lake, which is implemented by Germany in cooperation with Hanoi City - a representative of Vietnam.

After being drained of the sludge, the benefits and potential impacts on the ecosystem will be assessed.

According to Rao, the sludge extraction in Sword Lake according to German technology, will draw experiments on an area of about 1,000m2 - equivalent to about 300 tons of mud. After that, it will stop to conduct evaluation and analysis from the results obtained to serve as a basis to continue extracting sludge from the entire Sword Lake in 2010. It is expected that in early November 2009, the Federal Republic of Germany will give equipment and technology to install and implement.

According to Mr. Rao, German sludge suction technology has been applied in Uncle Ho's fishpond. The results of environmental analysis before, while sucking mud and then all showed that the environmental and ecological parameters are less volatile.
