According to Earth Sky, rainbow fog, or white rainbow, is created by a mechanism similar to a normal rainbow. Rainbows often appear when the air is filled with raindrops, and you always see it in the direction opposite to the Sun. The white rainbow is also the same, always facing the Sun, but it is formed by droplets in the fog or cloud rather than larger raindrops.

White rainbows can be observed in a thin fog when the Sun shines. Because water droplets in the fog are so small, the white rainbow has only faded or colorless colors.

"Some white rainbows have very low contrast. If you want to observe the white rainbow, look for small light changes in the fog. The Sun must be around 30-40 °, or you standing on a high hill, where fog and white rainbows can be seen from above, white rainbows are as big as a regular rainbow, but much wider , " Les Cowley, working expert at the Atmospheric Optics website, said.
