Tourists flocked to Nicaragua to see firsthand the 1,000-degree lava lake in the crater.
Photographer Martin Rietze, 51, recorded breathtaking images of hot lava lakes up to 1,000 degrees Celsius in the Masaya volcano in Nicaragua.
With the volcano-like Doom in the fictional movie "The Lord of the Rings", Masaya volcano has become an attractive tourist destination in Nicaragua.

Many visitors have come to Masaya volcano in Nicaragua to see firsthand the beauty of this extremely rare lava lake.
Lava lake phenomenon occurs in a few weeks or months before the molten rock froze.
Lava lake occurs when molten rock accumulates in the crater and the temperature here can reach 1,000 degrees Celsius.
These images were recorded by Martin Rietze when he visited the Masaya volcano in Nicaragua last April.
The lava lake emitted an eerie orange light during the day.
German photographer said he had to wait several days to choose the most suitable weather and lighting conditions for taking photos.
"The size of the steam cloud may depend on air humidity and many other factors. It takes me a week to take these photos," Rietze said.
