Find out how to slow down the aging process
Scientists in Hong Kong have outlined a formula that can slow down the aging process in mice (a finding published in the December issue of Cell Metabolism) hopes to replicate in humans.
This finding builds on their work in 2005 in shedding light on early aging, or pediatrics - a rare genetic disease where one in four million children is infected. .
Pediatric disease is evident in the appearance of a child before he is one year old. They stopped growing, lost body fat, wrinkled skin and hair loss despite their normal mental abilities. Like older people, they become stiff and accumulate plaque in the arteries that can lead to heart disease and stroke. Most of these children will die before they are 20 years old.
When studying the pediatrics, a team at the University of Hong Kong discovered a mutation in the Lamin A protein that disrupted the repair process in cells, thus leading to an increase in the aging process.
One in four million children has this disease
In this study, scientists used both lab rats and laboratory plates, and found that normal and healthy Lamin A sticks to the SIRT1 gene (a type of gene associated with longevity) and activate it.
Based on that principle, scientists develop a type that resembles Lamin A or increases the bond between Lamin A and SIRT1. In addition, scientists also studied further to consider the binding effect between Lamin A and SIRTI which was strongly promoted by resveratrol (a compound found in the bark of red grapes and some fruits. other) or not.
Associate Professor Zhou Zhongjun, who led the study, said healthy rats fed resveratrol were significantly healthier than healthy mice that did not eat the compound. As a result, scientists were able to delay the aging process of mice and prolong their life.
Asked if their research supports the notion that drinking red wine may slow aging and reduce the risk of heart disease, Associate Professor Zhou said the amount of resveratrol in red wine is very low and alcohol content in alcohol will be harmful before any benefits can be brought.
