The sculpture is a woman, but has lost its head and has no hands. It was discovered off the coast near the town of Baia - which is considered an underwater archaeological site.
Paolo Caputo, an official of the Local Heritage Agency said: "The discovery of the statue is very significant and extremely important to us, because it is possible to know the quality of ancient marble. and ingenious ingenuity of the ancient sculptor ".
Archaeologists have not yet confirmed that this defect statue is a figure of a saint, or a member of the royal family.
The area around where the Baia statue is found is a hot-water resort, which was very popular during the Roman period and there are many beautiful villas here.
One of these villas was confiscated by the Nero Empire (37-68 AD) and turned into a summer vacation castle.
