First time in history: Three hurricanes at the same time in the Atlantic in October
There is currently an unprecedented hurricane event in history: There are three active hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean in October. Of these, Hurricane Milton is the strongest and most destructive. This shows the unpredictability and irregularity of extreme weather events around the world.
Hurricane Milton made history when it marked the first time there were three simultaneous hurricanes in the Atlantic in October.
In addition to Hurricane Milton, which formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to make landfall in Florida (USA) in the next 2 days, the remaining 2 storms - Hurricane Kirk and Hurricane Leslie - may only move over the sea and not make landfall , according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
In the last 170 years, there have never been three active hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean at the same time after September, said Philip Klotzbach, a senior hurricane researcher at the University of Colorado . They may happen in August and September, but not from October through the end of the year, based on NHC data going back to 1851.

The unprecedented event underscores the growing unpredictability and concern of hurricane seasons around the globe, the NHC said. While hurricane activity in the Atlantic typically begins to decline in October, this year's pattern defies historical norms.

Hurricane Milton , the strongest of the trio, is also a record-breaking storm. The once-in-a-lifetime storm is headed toward Florida and is expected to make landfall today (Wednesday) (Thursday morning, Vietnam time), directly hitting the densely populated city of Tampa. Officials say Milton's impact could be 'catastrophic'.
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri in Pinellas County near Tampa warned of Hurricane Milton: 'It's going to be bad. That's all you need to know. Everybody needs to leave' .
