Floods raging in Malaysia

Not yet recovering from the flood last week caused eight deaths, Malaysia again suffered from downpour on December 26.

Five relief centers have reopened in Johor state (southern Malaysia) to receive refugees. According to the Malaysian News Agency, nearly 63,000 people were forced to relocate from their homes.

Heavy flooding also affected Pahang state (central Malaysia) and the state of Malacca. There has been no news of the number of people killed in the new flood, in addition to the rescue agency looking for a 17-year-old youth missing from a few days ago. Local newspapers said the flooding caused another threat to the people, including dangerous animals such as crocodiles, pythons or cobras. In Singapore, rain continued to fall back on December 26 after a day of cloudy weather, but did not cause major flooding, except for a local flash flood on Mountbatten Street in 30 minutes. The rain also caused a landslide on Upper East Coast Street, fortunately no people died or were injured.
