Florists have new hope!

A 20 liter culture tank can produce 10,000 lily seedlings after 1-2 months only; It takes only six months for the production of Phalaenopsis orchids instead of the whole year. These research results have brought new hope for flower growers, flower lovers .

Breeding a series of lily flowers

A new signal for lily growers when a group of scientists from Da Lat Biotechnology Institute and University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) announced: successful propagation of flower plants lily with the technique of cultivating bioreactor.

Dr. Duong Tan Nhut, chairman of this research, said this is a technique that allows the production of a large amount of lily flower seedlings in a short time. As a result, lily flowers have a stable source of seedlings, uniform quality of trees with low cost (currently the price of lily bulbs is still high).

Using the above technique, tissue cells of lily bulbs will be cultured in glass bottles, specially designed and placed on shaking machines. After three months of culture, tissue cells will root and form tubers. The tubers are then cultured using the bioreactor technique. From an initial bulb, after three months of culture, 3-4 new tubers can be produced. With a culture tank, a 20 liter volume bioreactor can produce 10,000 lily seedlings within 1-2 months.

Test results show that the seedlings grown with bioreactor are capable of surviving and growing in natural environments up to 95%. Not only with lily flowers, the research team began to put the bioreactor into the study to quickly multiply the seaweed seedlings.

Create orchid lake orchids: only six months

Meanwhile, scientists from Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center announced that they have researched and applied a new technique to shorten the time of propagation of Phalaenopsis orchids. Instead of taking a whole year to create the same tree as before, this new technique will shorten breeding time to six months.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Binh - deputy director of Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center - calls this a temporary submerged culture technique. He says this method will provide nutrients and air for the development of scar tissue (the circular tissue will develop into plants) in an active manner. Also, the multiplication coefficient is 5-6 times higher than the propagation method by asexual reproduction method.

According to Mr. Binh, in the temporary submerged culture environment, the tissue grows fast and shoots continuously. On average, from a scar tissue after 2-3 months can germinate 20-25 shoots. These shoots have large leaves and very fast roots, buds grow into seedlings after only 2-3 months. When planted in the natural environment, 100% of seedlings cultivated by the above techniques are well-developed and grown.

The research team hopes 'temporary submerged culture techniques' will open new prospects in breeding and mass production of low quality, good quality seedlings, contributing to promoting the export of orchids. of Vietnam.
