Following Taiwan, earthquakes occurred in mainland China and Japan

A strong earthquake just shook Mangya City, northwest China this morning (April 4).

According to the China Earthquake Network Center (CENC), the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5 and occurred at 8:39 a.m. on April 4 (local time), with a depth of only 10 km.

The epicenter was located in Hoa Tho Cau town , 17 km from Mang Nhai City and 978 km from Tay Ninh City.

China Central Television (CCTV) quoted information from the Mang Nhai City Party Committee's Propaganda Department as saying that the earthquake was clearly felt at the above time.

There have been no reports of casualties or property damage.

In the immediate future, a number of vehicles and personnel from the Mang Nhai forward detachment were dispatched to the disaster area to check the situation.

Mangya is a county-level city in the Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai province.

According to China News , there were also reports of tremors in Dunhuang city (in Gansu province), Ruoqiang town and many other places in the Xinjiang autonomous region.

In December 2023, there was a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in the border area between China's Gansu and Qinghai provinces at midnight. The 10 km deep epicenter was located in Xishishan Autonomous County, in the Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province.

After the earthquake were hundreds of aftershocks. The number of people killed by this earthquake was 113 people and 536 people were injured. This is the earthquake with the highest number of deaths since the earthquake that occurred in Yushu City, Qinghai Province in 2010.

Yesterday (April 3), a strong earthquake caused power outages in many places in Hualien City and Taipei, Taiwan (China). Chinese media said tremors from this earthquake could be felt in the cities of Shanghai, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Ningde in mainland China.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Fukushima area in northeastern Japan on April 4, but no tsunami warning was issued.

There are currently no reports of damage or casualties after the earthquake, which had an epicenter at a depth of 40 km. The earthquake was also felt in Tokyo.

The US Geological Survey estimated the intensity of the April 4 earthquake to be 6.1 magnitude at a depth of about 40.1 km.

The strongest earthquake ever recorded in Japan was a 9.0-magnitude undersea earthquake in March 2011 off the northeastern coast of Japan, causing a tsunami that left about 18,500 people dead or missing.
