Currently, about 900 million people worldwide are living in hunger.Oxfam, a humanitarian aid organization, warns that more millions of people could face a food shortage crisis within the next two decades. The cause is attributed to rapid population growth, severe weather and rising energy prices.
By 2050, the world population is expected to increase by one third from the present, from 6.9 billion to 9.1 billion. This means that the demand for food must also increase by at least 70%. However, droughts, floods and storms due to climate change are and will negatively affect world food production.
The current price of major staples such as cereals is at its highest level ever.Oxfam experts predict that the price of food will more than double compared to the current level in the next 20 years.
The Daily Mail quoted Jeremy Hobbs, director of Oxfam , saying: ' A crisis of new food shortages is coming because the climate is getting tougher, while the area of fertile land and water Clean increasingly scarce '.
To help the world escape a new food shortage crisis, Oxfam scientists have come up with solutions including saving clean water, restructuring agriculture and supporting use. Biofuels in developed countries, established a multinational food bank.
