For beautiful photos, take a tilting shot on the left side of your face

A new study found, the left side of the human face generally looks more attractive than the right side of the face. This may help explain why portrait painters tend to portray the model's left side.

A new study found, the left side of the human face generally looks more attractive than the right side of the face. This may help explain why portrait painters tend to portray the model's left side.

According to Huffington Post newspaper, the study was conducted by Dr. James Schirillo - professor of psychology at Wake Forest University (USA) and colleagues Kelsey Blackburn and published results in Experimental Brain Research magazine.

Researchers have asked 37 college students, both male and female, to review photos of 10 men and 10 women. These photos were originally taken or used mirror reflection effects (from the left-hand image reflected into the right-hand shot and vice versa).

The result is that the images on the left side of the face are judged to be 'more pleasant and beautiful', the ones that show the right side of the face, whether the portrait is originally taken or the mirror effect mat.

The team strengthened the finding by measuring the size of the pupils in the eyes of the participants. They found, staring at pleasant or interesting images that made the pupils in their eyes expand, while unpleasant images made the pupils narrow.

The results reveal that the left side of the human face tends to show stronger emotions, making observers feel aesthetically more satisfied. Our findings provide additional evidence to support some of the views about: 'emotional divide by side' and 'right hemisphere of the brain to control the left side of the process of expressing emotions' , quoting Research report by Dr. Schirillo.

Mr. Schirillo added that, in fact, if you want a good picture, you should turn your head slightly to the right to show the left side more.
