China Daily quoted quoted Easter University experts as saying that archaeologists have found three areas where Cao Cao's descendants may be living. They are trying to sample DNA from Cao Cao's descendants and compare them with the DNA samples they took from the skull in the tomb in Ha Nam province.

On December 27, 2009, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences announced that archaeologists found Cao Cao grave in Xigaoxue village, An Duong old city, Ha Nam province. But soon a part of Chinese public opinion and many experts said that the person was buried in a grave not Cao Cao.

Han Shen, archeology professor of Easter University, said genealogy is a tool to find Cao Cao descendants. Archaeologists have found 258 people in the Cao family genealogy. They checked 118 of them.

Test results show that Cao Cao's descendants can live in three areas: the border area between the three provinces of Anhui, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Henan; region near three cities of Jinhua, Shaoxing, Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province; some areas along the Yangtze River like Hunan and even Shanghai.

Archaeological experts say that anthropologists should pay attention to those who live in Jinhua city in Zhejiang province. Many evidences show that they are Cao's descendants.

"If we find those people, we will collect DNA samples easily. Instead of waiting for people to voluntarily provide DNA samples, we decided to go to areas where Cao Cao's descendants live to sample , " China Daily quoted Professor Li Hui, project manager, defining Cao Cao's identity.
