Found a large Egyptian boat near the pyramid

Czech archaeologists have recently unearthed a large boat used in funerals in ancient Egypt near the pyramid complex in Abusir, south of Cairo.

This is considered an important discovery because very few ships of ancient Egyptian civilization could exist until now.

In a statement, the Egyptian Monuments Ministry said the wooden boat is about 18m long and has a date of over 4,500 years. Archaeologists have found the boat buried under sand and lying on a rock while they are studying an ancient tomb. This is the boat used in burial ceremonies and is said to be built in South Abusir cemetery.

Archaeologists consider this to be a remarkable discovery because the large-sized boat in that period was only for high-ranking members of the society, who were from the royal family.

According to them, the length of the boat and the number of pottery found with it indicate that these objects may be at the end of the third and fourth half of ancient Egypt.

Archaeologists also said the excavation of the boat in Abusir would be a major contribution to the understanding of ancient Egyptian shipbuilding.
