Found a way to change the taste of a cup of lemonade over the Internet

We have heard that the Nazarene legend may have turned water into wine, but science has partly materialized that legend when a group of Singaporean scientists have found a way to turn water into lemonade without lemon and send them over the Internet.

In tests, researcher Nimesha Ranasinghe and colleagues used color and acid sensors to record the color and pH of a freshly squeezed lemonade. After collecting the data, they sent this information online to the recipient's digitized cup.

Notably, the digitized cup on the receiver's side is filled with water, attaching sensors and LEDs to recreate the pale yellow color of lemonade. When the recipient drinks the water from the digital cup, an electrode will affect the person's tongue and simulate the taste of lemon juice as the information is sent.

During the experiment, the team asked 13 volunteers to taste both real lemonade and "virtual" lemonade, but kept it secret from them about each drink. The results showed that most volunteers who rated lemonade actually had a sour taste, and "virtual" lemon juice only seemed very sour due to their color.

Because the technology is still in the development stage, the team has not been able to fully reproduce the taste of any beverage they want to send over the Internet."We will not be able to reproduce the true taste of beverages without stimulating the smell," said Amol Bhondekar , an expert with the Central Science Equipment Association of India.

We will not be able to reproduce the true taste of the drink without stimulating the sense of smell.

However, Ranasinghe's group claims to continue to develop "a perfect virtual cocktail with full flavor, color and lifelike smell". They hope, this technology will allow people to abstain from certain drinks, such as soft drinks, to enjoy them in the virtual world. Mr. Ranasinghe said: "We are working with a full cocktail with taste, color and bitterness. We want to be able to create any drink."

Will this invention be a major breakthrough in the future as there is a part of virtual supporters who believe that virtual food can replace bad foods that can cause allergies, or foods? Should eat because of health condition.

The researchers presented the work at the Conference on tangible embedded interaction in Yokohama, Japan this month.
