Fungal meningitis continues to spread in the United States

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on October 14 that there are currently 15 patients who die from meningitis associated with poor quality steroid drugs.

The number of people with the disease has increased to 205 and spread to 14 states.

Of the 14 states with meningitis, Tennessee was the hardest hit with 53 patients, including 6 deaths, Michigan had 41 cases, Virgina had 34 cases.

In addition, states like Florida, Mariland, Minnesota, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey and Texas are also on the list of infected people.

According to the latest statistics, about 14,000 people in 23 states have used poor quality steroids. This is a special injectable drug used to treat back pain that is produced by the New England Foundation in Massachusetts. The company has now recalled all of its products and stopped all production activities.

Fungal meningitis is very rare and does not spread from person to person.
