Garlic does not kill coronavirus

Medical experts say garlic helps boost the body's immune system, but no scientific research has shown its antiviral effects.

Chairman of the Hanoi Oriental Medicine Association Nguyen Hong Siem said: "Information circulating online about using garlic when experiencing symptoms of cough, sneezing, runny nose, and fever is all folk experience. Currently, there is no research showing that garlic has the ability to inhibit viruses, regardless of the type of virus ."

He also said that many people share the method of pounding garlic mixed with boiled water to cool at a moderate concentration to drop into the nose, treating flu symptoms. However, this method is also "unscientific".

According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Thinh, Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology, University of Science and Technology, garlic is a nutritious spice that helps improve the immune system and does not cause side effects to the body.

Mr. Thinh and Dr. Nguyen Vu Trung, Deputy Director of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, share the same opinion: " It is a mistake to think that eating a lot of garlic or using garlic can kill viruses in general and the new coronavirus ."

Experts recommend that people should strictly follow the Ministry of Health's instructions on pneumonia prevention and should not apply information spread on social networks.

Wash your hands frequently because the corona virus is transmitted by touching or coming into contact with objects that have the secretions of an infected person. Gargle with antiseptic solutions to eliminate or reduce the virus before it enters the lungs.
