Giant moonfish come to the museum
On September 13, Vietnam Nature Museum received two moon fish weighing 400kg and 100kg captured by two Nghe An fishermen.

On September 11, when fishing off the Gulf of Tonkin, two fishermen in Quynh Long, Quynh Luu and Nghe An communes, Vu Xuan Trong discovered a 400kg moon and Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh caught the fish around. 100kg.

Director of the Vietnam Museum of Nature - Dr. Tran Van Luc confirmed on September 14 that this unit had received the two moon fish to create a model for research and display.
"The big fish is about 2.5 m long, the distance between the two edges is 2.6 m. The small fish is 1.5 m long. Now the museum staff has stripped the skin of the big moon fish , " said Luc.
In less than a month, Nghe An fishermen captured three moon fish. Before that, at the end of August, Mr. Bui Van Can, Quynh Phuong commune, Quynh Luu district owned a 120kg moon fish, longer than 1.5m. This person volunteered to donate to the museum.
Moon fish has the scientific name Mola mola, belonging to puffer fish (Tetraodontiformes). This is a fish species in the Vietnam Red Book, classified as endangered species, needs protection. They are mainly distributed in the Gulf of Tonkin and Central waters. The number of species is less than 250.
This is a fish with a large size, body length can reach 3m, especially they rarely enter near shore areas. They have vivid colors, live outside the ocean, often dive under deep waters, where temperatures are very low.
