Girls are saved by 3D heart

Doctors in the UK create 3D copies that simulate the defective heart of a two-year-old girl to find a solution before surgery to save her life.

Baby Mina Khan, two years old, was born with a deformed heart that doctors think is difficult to treat. With a small hole in the middle of the ventricle (the blood circulation section to the heart and lungs), she is always in a state of fatigue, weakness and unable to gain weight.

The only hope for Mina is that an operation can patch and close this hole. However, even the most experienced experts said that this is a difficult case and quite dangerous because Mina is too young.

Telegraph said yesterday that doctors at St Thomas's Hospital in London used 3D printing technology to create a plastic version of a real-sized, heart-shaped and defective heart as Mina's heart condition. 3D heart version is based on image data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computerized tomography.

According to Dailymail, Dr. Gerald Greil, the creator of the 3D copy, said that it helped doctors install Gore-Tex artificial patch on Mina's heart.

"Mina is now like other normal girls. My baby is starting to eat better, he is sick and growing , " said Natasha Buckley, Mina's mother.

Using 3D printing technology to create copies of organs in the human body can help doctors determine treatment with patients, promising to become an important surgical support tool in the future. .
