Half of the world's atolls may disappear
An environmental protection organization warns that half of the world's atolls may disappear within 40 years.
The World Organization for the Protection of the World has released a report on October 26 saying that global warming is the main cause of the destruction of atolls.
The organization said that ocean heat is killing algae that make food and color corals. This progress will occur regularly over the next 50 years.
The organization also estimates that by now 20% of the atolls on the earth have been destroyed and 30% of the atolls will be severely damaged without early action to save.
