The research report published in the Sage Open magazine revealed that left-handed people accounted for 40% of patients with schizophrenia. However, only about 10% of the world population is left-handed, or in other words, the number of people who favor the "hand" makes up a very small percentage.

Among the left-handed celebrities in the world are current US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince British William, former Beatles member - Sir Paul McCartney or actresses Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie.

Many former US presidents also wrote with their left hand, including George Bush Snr (Bush's father) and Bill Clinton. The late President Ronald Reagan is said to be ambidextrous.

Researcher Jadon Webb from Yale University (USA) stated: "Our research results show that left-handedness is common in people with mental disorders."

Researchers believe that the changes in the brain that make a left-handed person also contribute to schizophrenia. This discovery may also change the long-standing view of the signs of disease.

According to Professor Nick Craddock, a psychologist at Cardiff University (UK), the study implies that serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia can manifest in both the brain and body, not just "completely in the brain".

Despite this connection, most schizophrenia patients are not left-handed. In addition, most left-handed people do not usually develop this mental illness.

Some experts argue that common left-handedness in cases of schizophrenia can simply be a coincidence and it can change over time.

Meanwhile, others said that left-handedness is related to the level of creativity and mastery of more excellent skills, the reason why many artists, musicians and talented sports athletes are people Hand gesture. Or simply, living in a world dominated by right-handed people forced the few left-handed people to get used to "fighting" for themselves from a young age.
