According to Dr. Hoang Cuong, the Department of Examination, Central Eye Hospital, the number of patients who have seen pink eye recently has increased sharply, accounting for about 25-40% of the total patients.

Pinkeye causes fluid when it spreads, the disease is contagious, almost becoming an annual. However, each year there are certain differences. In 2013, when at the top of the epidemic, the disease appeared almost nationwide, lasting from July to November.

" This year there is a leap month so the pinkeye epidemic comes later than last year," Dr. Cuong commented. He advised, if the disease spreads strongly in the back-to-school season like this year, the health sector, parents and teachers should have a thorough awareness of disease prevention, drastic treatment and abstinence more seriously. "Experience shows that the disease will recede gradually and almost no longer appear when the first northeast monsoon comes to the North," Dr. Cuong said.

According to him, children are often sensitive to viruses in general, so they are also susceptible to pinkeye. In contrast, elderly people suffer less from pinkeye, perhaps the fibrous and aging conjunctival tissue is not suitable for the developing virus.

The disease spreads through 3 main routes: breath and saliva, direct hand-eye contact, spousal relationship. Schools are environments with great interactions, so it is very contagious. Children who detect pinkeye should leave school for 5-7 days. School health care must be ensured during the season that children must wash their hands often with specialized hand wash, eye salt water wash, antiseptic common items or used as door handles, elevator buttons . .

According to Dr. Le Xuan Thuy, Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, pinkeye is manifested mainly by red eyes and with jerks . Dr Huanggang said that physiological saline or low viscosity artificial tears is widely recommended for the treatment and prevention of pinkeye. Antibiotics and antibiotics containing corticosteroids reduce the output, bring a pleasant feeling to patients, shorten the duration of treatment. A study in the British Journal of Ophthalmology (BJO) demonstrated that use of ophthalmic Dexamethasone for 5-7 days significantly reduced treatment time.
