Heavy rain caused severe flooding in Nigeria
Heavy rains that lasted for weeks in Nigeria have caused serious flooding in at least 18 of the 38 African states.
Nigeria's Commissioner for Environmental Affairs, Abdulrahaman Wuya, said on October 8 that flooding has affected 457 districts of nine regions in Nigeria, of which there is more in Kogi state in the North. 600,000 people have to evacuate.
The number of temporary centers for disaster victims has also increased to 87 centers from the initial number of 9 centers.
According to the preliminary assessment of the Nigerian Government, the education, agriculture, health and roads sectors are most severely affected during this disaster.
Nigeria is urgently taking measures to support farmers in the rest of the country unaffected by flooding to expand their farming areas, using farming mechanization techniques, to increase agricultural production to avoid food security threats.
