Heavy rain in India caused landslides that left 14 people dead
14 people were killed in landslides in Idukki district due to heavy rain lasting from August 3. Meanwhile, many people were missing in flooded areas in the center of Kerala state after some overflowing dams in Idukki district.

The local police source said in the Idukki district, 18 landslides occurred on 4 and 5 August.
At the Chiyappara waterfall area along the Kochi-Madurai highway 5 people were buried while clearing rubble due to a previous landslide.
Eyewitnesses said dozens of people were missing after the landslide near Chiyappara Falls, including tourists.
Heavy rains also flooded the tarmac that forced Kochi International Airport in the Indian state of Kerala to close until August 5.
The Kerala state government has asked the military and the National Rapid Response Force to quickly go to the accident areas to organize rescue work and help with the consequences.
