After reviewing the relevant factors, the City People's Committee has decided to announce the translation, and asked the Director of the Department of Health, Chairmen of the People's Committees of the districts to coordinate with the relevant departments and agencies. immediately implement measures to prevent and combat epidemic strictly according to the provisions of the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases.

At the same time, the above units must also manage, monitor and closely monitor the situation of Zika virus disease outbreak in the city, continue to enhance environmental sanitation, eradicate thirst in residential areas. and households and not to generate new outbreaks.

Earlier on May 15, Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute reported two new cases of Zika virus were detected. Initial information shows that these are two female patients living in Districts 2 and 12. Currently the health of both patients is stable.

Thus, up to now, Vietnam has 7 cases of Zika virus infection concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City (4 cases) and Binh Duong, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen (1 case per province).

Zika virus was first discovered in the 1940s but most people did not know about this epidemic until 2015, because before that, the Zika epidemic only happened on a small scale and caused not too big harm.

However, since the end of 2015, the outbreak of Zika in Brazil has affected more than 1 million people and changed the view of this virus transmitted by mosquitoes. Scientists believe that this is a dangerous virus, which directly affects the fetal brain, leading to a weak, incurable or slow cognitive health condition.

Due to such consequences, WHO has declared a global emergency medical condition from February 1, 2016.
