Hot water can relieve pain
Applying a bottle of hot water to 40 degrees Celsius can reduce abdominal pain (from menstruation or cystitis) for an hour. This is the result of a study by scientists at the University of London (UK).
The researchers used DNA technology to create heat-sensing proteins TRPV1 and protein that sensed pain P2X3 in the same cell and looked at molecular interactions between TRPV1 and P2X3. They found that heat-sensing proteins can prevent proteins from feeling pain and in this way TRPV1 can prevent P2X3 from spreading pain messages to the brain. British scientists hope their findings will help in the creation of future painkillers.
