Allicin compounds can enter our bodies through the skin.

According to Howstuffworks, garlic contains a compound called allicin , which gives a special flavor to this food. However, allicin is only released when garlic is cut, crushed or disturbed. Allicin is an interesting compound, it acts like water, thanks to the key is an oxygen atom and also has an oil-like property with its hydrocarbon tail. This means it can penetrate our body through the skin.

Scientists from the American Chemical Society have done an experiment to prove the "robustness" of garlic.

Crush lots of garlic, put your bare feet in a plastic bag with this garlic. After that, you bundle as if you are wearing socks. You leave that for an hour.

After this time there is no doubt that you started dreaming about Italian food because you started to smell garlic. Not because it escapes the bag: your feet and toes allow allicin to spill into your blood and you are actually tasting and smelling garlic through your feet.

Why must garlic be crushed or cut to release allicin? All garlic actually contains alliinase , an enzyme that works on a chemical called alliin to convert to allicin. When crushed the reaction will occur to release allicin.
