Data centers of this type are becoming increasingly important for companies like Facebook or Google, often guarded, only a few media organizations are allowed to visit.

"We look forward to serving the world from our data centers, and this is our center serving Europe," said Tom Furlong, vice president of Facebook at the beginning of the week. "Our primary goal is to make this center the most efficient ecological facility possible."

Every 18 months, global electronic data doubles. Every day there are 350 million photos, 4.5 billion "likes" and 10 billion messages posted on Facebook. Located in the remote forest in Sweden, this is where more than two million "posts" on Facebook every day in Europe spread around the world.

They chose this place because of their modern electricity network and hydropower supply, abundant green energy. In addition, Facebook can take advantage of low temperatures here to cool server systems.

The security here is set according to the standards of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Visitors were escorted by the private security patrol, through bulletproof doors and metal wall corridors, to four large server rooms, installed with 500 giant air-conditioning fans sucking cold air from outside.

The doors automatically closed thanks to the air pressure difference when the 150 employees here moved from room to room. 4 rooms containing the server did not make a sound, only the lights flashed.

The data warehouse is located on an area of nearly 340,000 square meters, and has been in operation since 2013, but is about to double the area in the next three months. A new building will be built with thousands more servers installed.
