Huge pumpkin thanks to 'talking to people'

Chatting with regular trees is one of the measures a British gardener makes to create pumpkins with a mass of more than 140kg and bigger than an armchair.

Clive Bevan - a gardener in Wellingborough, England - grows giant pumpkin varieties in his garden. Then some Malaysian officials suggested that Bevan plant the pumpkin in a tropical forest in Malaysia. Bevan only went to Malaysia three times to take care of pumpkins, the BBC reported.

Recently Bevan said pumpkins were larger than armchairs and had more than 140kg in weight, over 150cm tall. He predicted that trucks would not be able to transport pumpkins after they had grown to their fullest extent. So he considered the possibility of using helicopters to take them out of the forest.

"Malaysian rainforest is a good environment for giant pumpkin varieties," Bevan remarked.

Giant pumpkins will be displayed in public after they reach their maximum size, Bevan announced.

Some Bevan pumpkins have been used for other purposes. In 2010 he gave some pumpkins for a charity show in Northamptonshire County. During the show, people crushed pumpkins with trucks.

According to Bevan, the birth of giant pumpkins is the result of many factors - like the right environment, good seeds. But the unique point is that he often talks to pumpkin trees.

"Talking to them will help us make a huge difference," he said.
