Ice layers at Mount Angola, memorandum of rainfall
According to studies conducted by French and Bolivian scientists, the ice sheets on the Mount Estonian do not store data like those found in Antarctic ice sheets. The composition of these tapes shows more information about rainfall than climate information.
To study climate change through ice samples, researchers rely on the analysis of isotopes of water. At the North and South poles, changes in isotopes can be related to temperature changes. In tropical regions, the changes are quite complex and the analysis of the data is not easy. To conduct research, scientists set up a network to collect rainwater in the area near Illimani, Bolivia's glacier zone where ice patterns reflect the evolution of climate history within 20,000 years.
The analysis of rainwater samples shows that the composition of isotopes in the ice depends primarily on the rainfall of each region, the Amazonian region and the tropical region of the Atlantic . According to the results, these areas are much wetter than what people thought 20,000 years ago. These results are published in Earth and Planetary Science Letters.
