An Italian researcher claims he knows the exact date of the death of Mona Lisa, the protagonist of Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting and her burial place.

La Joconde specialist Giuseppe Pallanti said the legendary woman died on July 15, 1542 and was buried in a monastery in Florence (Italy).

Mr. Pallanti made the above conclusion after referring to archives in a church right in the center of Florence. He specifically analyzed the death certificate of Lisa Gherardini, his wife Francesco Del Giocondo. She died on July 15, 1542 and was buried at Sant'Orsola monastery.

According to Pallanti, Mona Lisa died at the age of 63 in this monastery, where she was in the last years of her life. This monastery is near the church of San Lorenzo and is now abandoned.

Mr. Giuseppe Pallati specializes in the study of La Joconde's life and history. He published the " Mona Lisa, Mulier ingenua " (Mona Lisa, real woman) in 2004.

The identification of La Joconde has been controversial. Some experts still dismiss the assumption that Lisa Gherardini has modeled for artist Leonardo Da Vinci. However, according to the majority, La Joconde's real name is Lisa Gherardini. She was born in 1479 and is the second wife of a wealthy silk merchant, Francesco Del Giocondo. The two had five children together.

A famous expert on Leonardo Da Vinci, Professor Carlo Pedretti, expressed his intention to unearth the body of the woman who was supposedly Mona Lisa to analyze her DNA. According to him, the accuracy of these current techniques could allow her to reproduce her appearance, even her face, and help identify the woman in the painting.
