In contrast, pain relievers cause pain to last longer

Analgesics, especially opioid-based drugs are increasingly hiding many health hazards.

Pain is a common symptom and causes many problems and discomfort for patients. To manage pain, the first solution is to use medicine. There are many non-mandatory oral pain relievers on the market, patients can buy them on their own. However, the use of painkillers and abuse of these drugs is also easy to suffer from unfortunate side effects.

Pain medicines that are often used in the home can make pain much longer than normal. According to researchers' reports published at the Russian Academy of Sciences conference on May 30, morphine treatment to relieve nerve pain in mice caused The pain persisted extremely long.

Results from these in-depth studies have further raised concerns about unwanted side effects of popular painkillers such as OxyContin and Vicodin.

Scientists have found that opioid-based painkillers increase the user's sensitivity to pain many times. New research shows that these effects last for several weeks after drug use has been stopped.

In the laboratory, the researchers had surgery to implant the sciatic nerve of the mice. The incision runs along the hind legs and is stitched with medical threads. 10 days after surgery, the mice were divided into two groups. Group 1 used painkillers, while group 2 used salt water to wash wounds.

Mice that do not use painkillers take about 4 weeks to fully recover and are less sensitive to pain. Meanwhile, mice that used painkillers took more than eight weeks to recover, twice as much as normal mice. Moreover, pain relievers prolong the duration of pain in these mice.

Prolonged pain caused the spinal cord of these mice to appear inflamed. Scientists believe that this phenomenon occurs because the immune system determines that painkillers are a threat and cause specific biological reactions. When they increase the level of inflammation through specialized cells (called glia), the painful time is shortened. This may be explained by the immune system's belief that enough inflammation has been created to counteract the analgesic molecules, thus alleviating painful biological reactions in the body.

Frequent use of painkillers can cause complications related to liver and kidney diseases. To use reasonable painkillers and avoid side effects of drugs, it is best to see a doctor for the cause of the pain, the severity of the disease. From there, the doctor will prescribe and appropriate treatment regimen for each condition.

Although there are still many issues to be answered, scientists believe that this result will further promote the research process and seek safer methods of pain relief in the future.
