'India should outsource in ... foreign countries'

Indian outsourcing companies should expand their operations into other developing countries, if they want to maintain their superiority and competitiveness, experts warn.

Building call centers and software development centers in Mexico and Eastern Europe will help Indian technology firms closer to customers from the US and Western Europe.

" Customers who want services are as close to them (geographically) as possible, " said Padma Ravichander, President of Perot Systems in India and Asia-Pacific region. This is a company specializing in providing IT services for banks, pharmaceutical companies and financial services.

Sometimes, big corporations don't want to push their outsources too far from their headquarters. They feel like they beyond her control, "Padma told the audience to attend the Outsourcing Conference organized by the Indian Software and Services Association.

Perot Systems started operations in India more than a decade ago and now has branches in Romania, Hungary, Ireland and Latin America. The ultimate goal, nothing else, is to be able to "stay closer" to its customers.

Indian outsourcing companies are under great pressure from many other emerging outsourcing centers around the world. China, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia have always been identified by analysts as potential destinations, where labor prices are even "cheaper" and the level is no less competitive.

To maintain their superiority, many of India's leading outsourcing companies such as Tata Consultancy and Infosys have stretched across the Atlantic, opening their main office in the United States to serve large, important customers in this market.
