Indonesia has a new tsunami warning system

Indonesia has just launched a new tsunami warning system. This system is designed to help coastal residents have enough time to evacuate before the tsunami hits.

This system was deployed after the devastating tsunami in 2004 caused 250,000 people to die, including more than half of the people in Aceh province. It was opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the capital Jakarta yesterday (November 11).

The reason, according to Dr. Lauterjung, a German government spokesman involved in supporting the project, offshore buoys - has the ' mission ' to detect sea level changes - not yet installed around Bali islands. , Flores and northern Sumatra island, lead to delays in the tsunami forecast.

In addition, about a third of the project's seismic meters are not yet installed.

According to Dr. Sri Woro, director of the Indonesian Meteorological Agency, there are still "infrastructure problems" that make the system of sensors and transmitters not really fit. It is expected that by 2010, the new system will be completed.

Since the Indian Ocean tsunami four years ago, Indonesia has experienced two other tsunamis along the coast of Java and Sumatra, including one (which took place in September last year) with a new warning system. The above forecast succeeds.

Indonesia's new tsunami warning system was built with the help of many foreign aid, including Germany, Japan and China.
