Infected tap water

For nearly a month, thousands of households have used tap water in Son Tra district (Da Nang city), using water contaminated with coliform bacteria. The health sector has repeatedly recommended water supply units but the situation has not improved.

Heavy rain is cloudy

Picture 1 of Infected tap water Mai Thanh Thuc (Ngo Quyen street) describes: tap water often has tiny scale, not clear color but ivory. This situation has happened for a long time. So in the morning, people often have to discard 1-2 buckets of water to remove sediment from the pipes, then use them. More careful, many families have to put water through the filter tank before use.

'Whenever the Son Tra mountain is heavy, we have to drink cloudy water' - a household in Man Thai ward reflects. That is the reason why many families in Son Tra, despite having tap water, still asked the wells to close.

'There is a day when the water is very clear, there is no odor of chlorine, but there are days when the water is concentrated with chlorine odor. Even if it is a factory-grade country, it's still worrying like that! ' - Mr. Vo Nhu Thang, vice chairman of People's Council of Tho Quang ward, Son Tra district, said.

According to Mr. Thang, the entire ward has 22,000 inhabitants, more than 40% of them use tap water, reflecting the frequent occurrence of sediment. Water source is taken from Suoi Da system on Son Tra mountain but recently because Suoi Da has many tourists, the water source is more or less affected.

Water test with eyes!

High quality chlorine in water causes abnormal digestive disorders, intestinal water users.Low chlorine does not kill bacteria so water sources are not up to standard. If there is coliform infection in the water, the risk of digestion is very high, especially in the hot season.

With three pumping stations with a capacity of 5,000-10,000 m 3 / day and night, Son Tra Water Plant is responsible for supplying clean water to people in Tho Quang, Man Thai and Nai Hien Dong wards.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang - head of Son Tra Water Factory - said: 'Every day the factory also checks the concentration of chlorine in the water by taking the treated water and then comparing the control color to the sample water pipes'. When we asked how, Mr. Hoang laughed innocently: "Try it with . naked eyes."

According to the test results of Da Nang Preventive Medicine Center in some areas located in Son Tra district in June, Son Tra tap water source does not meet microbiological standards (coliform infection).

On July 1, the health sector continued to sample water in An Hai Bac ward (Son Tra district) and found coliform in water very high: with 150 bacteria / 100ml of water. Previously, in May, the excess chlorine content was too high, so the health sector could not determine the alkalinity. In contrast, through June the excess chlorine content in the water is almost absent.

The health sector issued an urgent notice to emphasize the water supply sector in the past few months that the water quality of the plant did not meet the permitted standards but still did not improve. Proposing the water supply sector to quickly re-examine the process of treating water sources and plumbing systems to ensure health safety for the people.

Mr. Bui Tho Ninh - Head of Technical - Planning Department, Da Nang Water Supply Company - admitted: the turbid water and clor in the water is not stable in the water source of Son Tra plant is available, due to the water supply system. too old. In order to prevent turbid water, the water supply industry will cut Son Tra water source every time the rain comes.

The company invested in machinery to pump chlorine by electrolysis machine, then the amount of chlorine mixed into the water will be stable in the standard level. However, the water supply company has not yet answered the question: why is the water source contaminated with coliform?
