Intel launches a series of energy-saving server chips
It is expected that Intel will begin shipping a new version of the Xeon "quad core" chip that consumes less power - only 50 watts for the server system.
The overall chip plan was announced by Intel at a press conference in San Francisco last week. Two new versions of the chip run much quieter than Intel's other quad-core chips - with energy consumption of 80-120 watts.
Meanwhile, Intel's rival, AMD, has also begun to sell energy-efficient server chip versions - 68 watts of power under maximum conditions.
Reportedly, the performance / watt indicator is currently an indicator of interest in the server market as businesses realize that their electricity bills are growing rapidly if they maintain "power-hungry" servers like water".
