Intel is about to introduce new server chip models
Intel is expected to add a number of new chips to the "1-way" one-way server chip along with a massive discount plan for current products in the third quarter.
The launch of new products plus the move to reduce product prices will help Intel accelerate the roadmap to announce Garlow platform (based on Bigby-P and Bigby-V chipsets), "paving the way" for introduced the quad-core 45-nm chip (Yorkfield) and dual core (Wolfdale) in the first quarter of 2008.
Intel plans to announce a number of new "1-way" server chips including a 2.66GHz Xeon 3200 model and three Xeon 3000 models with clock speeds of 2.33GHz, 2.66GHz and 3GHz, respectively.
It is known that the price cut schedule of Intel in the third quarter will be based on the prices set by the company from the big discount in April.
In the next quarter, the price of Xeon 3200 server chips will be reduced by 50% compared to the April 2007 price reduction, while the price of Xeon 3000 will remain the same.
