Invention of medicine delivery robot, Vietnamese students won an international gold medal

Awarded the second prize of the National Science and Technology Contest, the project of Yen Hoa High School students (Hanoi) continued to win three prizes at the international exhibition.

One week after returning home from the International Exhibition on Inventions , Invention (ITEX) in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Tong Duy Hai and Tran Phuong Lam (grade 11A3 students, Yen Hoa High School, Hanoi) are still not forget the feeling of being called on the podium to receive the gold medal, then become one of the few groups to win the Best Invention award and Best Young Inventor for the Robot Support project in hospital .

They also won the Special Gold Medal sub-award from Saudi Arabia's Highly Innovative Unique Foundation for the project.

Before registering to attend an international exhibition with more than 1,000 groups from about 20 countries, Hai and Lam brought the invention robot support in the hospital to the domestic Science and Technology competition. Through many rounds, the students received the second prize in the whole country.

Hai and Lam had the creative idea of robots in May 2018, after expressing their desire to participate in the science and technology competition with their teachers. Initially, they were given broad topics such as creating products to help with flooding, health care or food safety. Finally the two decided to choose the medical field.

Realizing that Vietnam has only about 1.3 nurses per thousand people, the nurse's work is heavy and pressured while Vietnam does not have a project to solve this problem, the two decided to find solution."From the beginning, we didn't think about the big things but just thought of designing a simple device that could support nurses a small part of the day-to-day work such as delivering medicine to patients. Small but requires time and high accuracy, " Hai said.

After the process of finding out, Thailand has a nurse robot to help transfer files and documents between hospitals' offices, or Japan has robots moving to some special areas to provide intravenous fluids, Test samples and some medical materials, Hai and Lam also thought of a robot that would run around the sick rooms to deliver medicine to patients who replaced nurses.

Lam said that under the support of a teacher at the University of Natural Sciences (Hanoi National University), she and Hai have created a simple robot model to attend the cluster level test (including two districts) already. city exam. After that, they had some improvements to take the national exam and won the second prize in March.

Their robots are equipped with road detectors that use optical sensors, integrating proximity sensors to enable them to track roads in hospitals according to symbols, to stop in front of sick rooms and stop when there are objects. block. A built-in camera helps people in the control center to monitor the movement of the robot while controlling it remotely when it sees an obstacle.

Robots also have compartments with the corresponding number of medicines for patients. Patients treated will be issued a QR code. Before taking the medicine, they just need to go near the robot, scan the QR code and the robot will take the medicine out to the right address. In addition, the robot is equipped with a wireless power charging station that uses solar power to make it automatically charge after finishing work.

The medicine delivery robot brought many achievements for Yen Hoa high school students, but also made it difficult for them to arrange study and research time. Even, they have to take some lessons or accept high test scores. Both accept the exchange option to live with the passion of invention, to interact with friends all over the world.

Mr. Hoang Viet Hung, Yen Hoa High School Physics teacher, instructor Lam and Hai, said the school has facilitated students to participate in international scientific research and examination by exam and examination. later compared to you or maximum support of facilities. Of course, teachers still require the two students to complete the goal of the subject at school.

"When Hai and Lam were awarded the second national prize and most recently the gold medal in Malaysia, I and the teachers were very happy. Although both studying and studying, the two of them still performed well at school. " , Mr. Hung said.

Currently, the medicine dispensers of Hai and Lam are designed in experimental form, moving in small spaces."In order to create a real robot that can be used in hospitals, we need more time. In addition, we also need the guidance, assistance and companionship of those who really care, capable of helping develop this product, " Lam said.

They wish to study more about the ability to integrate medical waste collection systems, interact directly with patients or integrate the development of virtual interactive assistants to communicate with patients in situations. simple.

The International Exhibition for World Young Creators (WYIE) is within the framework of the International Exhibition of Invention and Innovation (ITEX), hosted by Malaysia for three days, from 2 to 4 5.

This is an annual event introducing outstanding inventions of young people in the countries to create conditions for students who are passionate about science, technology and creative development to become bright houses. Future preparations.

The international jury includes professors and scientists from participating countries. The exhibition selected inventions awarded according to the criteria of the contest: newness, creativity, high applicability to production and life.
