Toilet flushing is not a modern invention. 5,000 years ago in Pakistan and Orkney Island, Scotland, it was known to use toilets in a separate bathroom, connected to a common drainage system and flushed with water. This idea once again appeared in the 16th century, when John Harington built an indoor toilet with an exit system for Queen Elizabeth I.
