Japan: YouTube negotiates copyright
This week, YouTube's senior officials will fly to Tokyo to negotiate copyright with some of the country's largest video content makers.
Two months ago, major Japanese video content makers threatened to sue YouTube if the company did not take measures to restrict users from posting video content allegedly infringing copyright on the video sharing website www. youtube.com.
According to a spokesperson for copyright, drafting and printing organization - JASRAC (Japan), YouTube's senior CEO Chad Hurley and Technical Director Steve Chen will be present in the copyright negotiation, expected. will take place tomorrow (February 6).
It is JASRAC that represents the 22 video content companies and corporations in Japan that require YouTube to strictly abide by copyright issues.
In December 2006, YouTube proceeded to remove 30,000 files allegedly infringed by Japanese users. However, soon after, copyright infringement continued, YouTube decided to negotiate with Japanese video producers.
