Korea uses stem cells to treat Huntington's disease
The treatment of Huntington's disease, a type of hereditary neuropathy, with stem cell technology has been developed in Korea.
Professor Song Ji-hwan of the hospital He just said the hospital has successfully created stem cells from skin cells of a woman with Huntington's disease to make nerve cells.
Huntington's disease is hereditary and untreatable because there is no effective treatment and is suitable for the development mechanism of the disease.
Huntington's disease is commonly known as a severe decline in brain function, causing dysfunction and death of brain cells leading to death. This is a rare disease, 10 out of every 100,000 people have it.
Professor Song's team said the treatment uses stem cells taken from the patient's own cells to help reduce the risk of rejection. The results of this study were introduced in the world famous scientific journal 'Stem cells'.
