Animals secrete a hormone that melatonin helps to fall asleep easily. When the day / night cycle is disordered, melatonin production is also affected, because of the darkness it accumulates in the body.

Artificial lighting systems can also alter the behavior of some nocturnal animals. When tracking snakes and frogs, researchers have shown that these animals are also struggling because of the continuous lighting system.

Canadian researchers Baker and Richardson (Brock University) noted that during the mating season, the cry of the green frog ( Rana clamitans melanota ) was interrupted when the artificial lighting system was maintained.

Another study by American scientist Bryant Buchana (Utica University) about snakes and frogs has also demonstrated that their development is disturbed by the continuous presence of natural light. Therefore, this pollution problem should be focused on protecting the animals living in urban areas.
