Video: The world alerted to light pollution

In Paris, France, at the end of the 18th century, people lit only half of the city's street lights on every full moon night. This is due to economic reasons instead of the environment.

In modern times, light pollution has become a big problem. As soon as night falls, urban areas glow in artificial halogen light with strong light intensity that overshadows the stars in the sky.

This phenomenon has increased dramatically in the past 20 years. Now, if standing in space, most of the Earth can be clearly seen even in the dark night.

Pollution of light brings many problems. Artificial light emitted from cities attracts millions of insects, preventing them from providing food for birds and thus breaking the natural food chain.

People are also victims of light pollution.

Light also makes migratory birds disoriented, because they detect their way by following the stars' light.

Artificial light also disrupts the biological life span of many plants, not only that, because it is illuminated at night, many species tend to shed their leaves.

People are also victims of light pollution when they suffer from sleep-related problems and concentration.

Some surveys have shown that people who are frequently exposed to intense light shine on their bodies for long periods of time are prone to cancer.

That's not to mention lighting up the sky at night or on the exterior of buildings that waste a lot of energy.
