Lions can become extinct because of lack of food

On the morning of March 28, 2006, biologist Marjolein Schoe of Leiden University (Netherlands) and his colleagues followed a male lion in Benoue National Park in Cameroon. They had previously worn an electronic chip ring on the animal's neck.
The team saw it with a female lion (also attached to an electronic chip) eating an antelope. As the car carrying experts approached, both of them ran into a bush. They hide in it until the car leaves.
By about 5 pm, the research team returned to the old place and saw many people from a nearby village cutting the antelope with a knife. They also ran away and hid in the bush when they saw the car. On the scene only the head, 4 legs and some small pieces of the animal remain.

' Although the event we observed was not in the research purpose, we still decided to publish it because people rarely had the opportunity to witness such things with their own eyes ,' said Hans de Iongh, an expert. about cat animals working for the World Conservation Union (WCU), said. Iongh also participated in Schoe's research.
Large predators such as lions, hyenas, African wolves and leopards often steal other children 's flesh (the same species and different species).
De Iongh said he had seen people scare away lions in Cameroon's Waza National Park to steal an antelope that they had just hunted.
After months of monitoring in some conservation areas in Cameroon, Schoe's group concluded that robbery and stealing of food by predators are more common than previously thought.
' Interviews with the Bororo tribesmen showed that they enjoyed chasing lions with sticks or fire to steal fresh meat ,' de Iongh said.
Many lion researchers in Africa have also published reports of human robbery of animals. Scientists are concerned that acts of looting can threaten the survival of lions and other predators.

' Lions, like many other carnivores, spend a lot of time and energy on their hunting efforts. Therefore, if they do not eat after hunting, they will be exhausted . Human acts of fresh meat can kill a lot of lions in a short time , 'de Iongh explained.
Statistics in Cameroon show that de Iongh's comments are completely grounded. For example, the Waza National Reserve has 50-60 lions in the 1990s. But in 2008 it was only about 12-20. With such dreadful decline, de Iongh and his colleagues fear that the lion population in the reserve is about to become extinct.
