Look through the night with cheap infrared glasses

Driving a car in the rainy night is very difficult because of limited visibility, difficult to detect animals or obstacles ahead. To overcome this there was an optional high-end system with night-vision infrared equipped with a car (FLIR) . Unfortunately, FLIR is a very expensive "toy" type .

Currently, researchers at Fraunhofer Institute of Materials Mechanics (IWM) in Freiburg, Germany have studied to reduce the cost of infrared lenses in the FLIR system to 70%, paving the way for the development of cameras FLIR is cheap for the mass market.

Microbolometer is very useful but it is an asset because the price is too expensive due to the infrared lens installed in the system.

FLIR night vision device is based on microbolometer micro-measuring. It detects heat at a normal level in the room, detects animals through their body temperature, creates images on the screen or activates the necessary alarm. Microbolometer is very useful but it is an asset because the price is too expensive due to the infrared lens installed in the system. In order for the microbolometer to be more widely used, the price must be lowered.

Currently infrared lenses are made of germanium, zinc selenide, zinc sulfide crystals which are very expensive and require sophisticated grinding and polishing. So the IWM team is looking for cheaper alternatives, which are also more convenient. The key to solving the problem is amorphous chalcogenide glasses. This type of glass contains elements such as sulfur, selenium, and cheap telua, which are often manufactured with lasers, CDs, and DVDs.

Dr. Helen Muller of the IWM team said the production process is simpler and does not need to be polished but still has the perfect lens to make the price cheaper 70%. Researchers are working to build a mass production process of cheap FLIR systems, which is no longer a high-end 'toy' in cars but into life applications such as monitoring aids, monitor, support the elderly, monitor heat during production, consider heat leaks in buildings .

A good night vision device (infrared glass) is an electronic-optical device that enables people to observe the environment of concern in dark nights or extremely weak light.

Long-range night vision equipment used in military operations, police, night-life research of organisms, or night hunting, . observations made in visible and infrared light areas near (infrared adjacent to visible light), or in the infrared heat zone.
