Male sex hormones make women selfish

When working in groups, women with higher levels of testosterone in their bodies will make more selfish decisions than others, a study shows.

Livescience reported that Nicholas Wright, a scientist at University College London in England, and colleagues conducted a test to test the effects of testosterone, male sexual hormones, on women's thinking. They recruited 34 women with an average age of 21 and divided them into 17 pairs. Women's groups are required to participate in a computer game. In that game two photos appear and each pair of women must decide which picture has a greater brightness. If two people disagree, they will have to discuss to find a common voice. Then one person will save that common decision on the computer.

The game takes place twice for all 17 groups. For the first time, the research team asked the girls to take a placebo, and in the second time each girl drank 80mg of testosterone. The average testosterone level in the male body is usually 80mg, while the average testosterone level in the female body is always lower than that number.

The results showed that, after taking testosterone, women were more difficult to reach consensus than when they took a placebo, Wright said. Most women just want to put their opinions on computers instead of making decisions of the other. Wright thinks this is a selfish act.

'Selfish people only appreciate their own opinions. The greater the selfishness, the more people think that they make the right decisions in all matters. Compared to taking a placebo, the level of selfishness of women in our study increased after they drank testosterone , 'says Wend.

Many previous studies have shown that women with high levels of testosterone in the body are more likely to get angry and perform harmful behaviors for society than others.
