These microscopic robots can travel across the surface of the planet, exploring caves and harsh jungles that devices like Spirit and Opportunity can not.
Dr. Penelope Boston of the Mining Technology Institute of New Mexico and Dr Stephen Dubowsky of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are studying spherical robots with the size of a tennite ball.
Scientists have equipped these robots with all sorts of mechanical devices, such as microscopes, spectrographs, and sensors to find living organisms in canyons and volcanic craters.
The information received by the micro-robots will be transmitted to the orbiting stations in space or ground stations.
The main advantage of this type of robot is the weight and small size. So, one can bring up the planet to study thousands of children.
