More evidence of the origin of the Moon

A team of scientists on June 5 published some new evidence that the Moon, the Earth's only natural satellite, was formed after a powerful collision between a similarly sized Theia object. from Mars to the planet at the time of the solar system's chaos.

The team of scientists from the University of Cologne and the University of Göttingen in Germany conducted a study of the Moon's rock samples brought back to Earth by astronauts from the US Aerospace Agency (NASA). the journey of Apollo 11, 12 and 16 ships.

After analyzing the ratio of isotopes of oxygen, titanium, silicon and other elements found in the soil samples, the researchers concluded, it is likely that the Moon is formed from 50% matter. Earth's and 50% are from Theia's body after the collision.

The previous hypotheses only showed that the Moon was formed with 70-90% of Theia's matter while Earth's matter only accounted for 10-30%.

Judging by these conclusions, the scientists claim that although this is a small difference and difficult to detect, this new rate is evidence that reinforces the theory that the Moon was formed from the collision. Big touch on.

However, they also argue that further research is needed on this issue in order to reach a final conclusion about the formation of the Moon.

Assuming the big collision formed the Moon was first introduced in 1975 at a conference on satellite science.

According to this hypothesis, 4.5 billion years ago, Theia's body (named after the Moon Goddess in Greek mythology) collided with the Earth's money to create a huge explosion.

The collision caused the cores of the two bodies to coalesce into one, while the material in the shells of both of them were vaporized by quantum energy and high temperature vaporized and pushed into space.

When these forms of matter cooled, they stopped coalescing to form the Moon. Meanwhile, the rest of the collision formed the Earth.

Each major collision increases the size of the planets or can also make them merge into a larger planet.

Specifically, for the Earth case, the collision formed the Moon marking the size increase to have an Earth as it is today.
